HONG KONG COUNTERFEIT (HKC) are John Langdon (a.k.a.
Inform3r) and DJ/artist Katya Casio. The band was formed
in the late 90's, at the time John was working on his
debut EP Sex Offender for release on Gigolo Records under
the name "Inform3r", and Katya was doing graphics for the
label. The duo also spent their time DJ-ing in various NYC
clubs as well as designing avant-garde clothes. HKC d
eveloped the concept for INTERNATIONAL DEEJAY GIGOLOS' next
logos (at that time label's boss DJ Hell was facing a
lawsuit from Arnold Schwarzenegger for using his photos
as company's logo). Hong Kong Counterfeit also introduced
the Record company to their latest muse; Amanda Lepore
who now graces their releases in the classic muscular
"Arnold" pose. Katya and John even entered the realm
of video direction by co-directing the video for Tiga's
"Sunglasses at Night" hit video. HKC recorded their first
EP METAL DISCO in 2001 which came out as a nifty looking
picture disc on Munich's Erkrankung Durch Musique Records
fusing retro-futuristic cover-art with the sounds of vintage
analogue synthesizers and a modernist approach (the album
also featured a remix by Legowelt and Orgue Electronique)
and was followed-up by a number of singles in Europe and
USA (on LASERGUN RECORDS,EMPEROR NORTON RECORDS, UNIVERSAL
FRANCE, THROBDISK, etc) and a number of compilations. Most
notably: DISCO NOUVEAU, KAPITAL NYC and FASHION TV FRANCE.
HKC's tracks have graced high fashion runways as well the
most underground dance-floors and the darkest seediest clubs.
Their songs been remixed by such esteemed artists as SAVAS
PASCALIDIS, KITBUILDERS,Johana of LE TIGRE, MAN PARRISH,
CAPRI, TAMPOPO, DAVID CARRETTA, JOHN SELWAY, and DJ ULYSSES.
Hong Kong Counterfeit's single "Emotion" was featured
on L'Oreal's promotional CD-ROM for their "Matrix" product
line. They've extensively through Europe in countries such
as: Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Belgium, and France,
many performances at festivals as well as clubs. HKC's first
US full-lenght album "COUNTERPARTS" was recently released by
Miami's Kinetik Media Records and it combines brand new
material with songs from the HKC's Italian CD release
"PARADISCO", plus singles previously only available on vinyl.
In the nearest future KINETIK MEDIA are planning to release an
album of covers and tributes to the legendary NY duo performed
by other artists and DJ's (a project born from unexpected fan
art).
